Awesomeness

Saturday, November 26th, 2005

Great awesomeness indeed at the Paul Mac concert. I’m so glad I went.

Though I had to kill time sitting around and doing nothing after work today the concert was worth it. They had ‘Hermitude’ up first and they were really cool. One guy on keyboard and the other DJ-ing their cuts tracks. I didn’t respect the fact they had an iBook though. Apples suck. Their music was definitely more chill-out. I normally don’t listen to the stuff but it was really nice so I bought their CD. They kept publicity whoring it during the set. Apparently they are Sydney locals. Awesome.

Up next was ‘The Presets’ whose sound reminds me of The Killers. There was a lot of heavy rock beat pumping and the guys voice was similar in my opinion to the The Killers lead. He was going psycho on stage and like said that they were going to go dancing afterwards and everyone should come along. There was also a fair bit of arrogance too in assuming everyone thought they were like the greatest. I quite enjoyed it, but it’s not really my type of music. A once off, but yeah, it didn’t make me want to go out and listen to them.

Then there was Paul Mac. It was just fantastic. Nearly all his songs had singers but their voices were so good live, so clear and the music was just so good. Paul Mac was also going crazy a bit on stage jumping and dancing… while playing keyboard! It just amazed me how co-ordinated he was to be jumping and playing two different keyboards at the same time. They had all the hits from his last album too like “The Sound of Breaking Up” and “Gonna Miss You”. I enjoyed every song that was played.

For the occasion I decided to get eyeliner and mascara. It took me bloody ages to apply it because I’m dead clumsy with it and I kept blinking. I guess practice makes perfect. It took me 45 mins to do it properly. I kept wreaking it when I accidently shifted my hand and it just got everywhere.

I then proceeded to Dan’s house for his little get together. But it was pretty dead by the time I got there (12:30am). So I left at 2:00am when Oleg left. I got him to drop me off at uni and I went to a lab and surfed the net until I could catch a train home. But of course, there’s trackwork and I had to change trains at Sydenham.

Reading the Flickr page on Getting the most out of Flickr (Flickr is where my photo hosting is) it came up with this gem of a line

Flickr and blogs go together like Captain and Tennille

I was stunned.

I also find it bloody hilarious because the only reason why I even know who Captain and Tennille exist because I downloaded a torrent of the Billboard hits of 1980. But I do love that song “Do It To Me One More Time”

Chocolates

Saturday, November 19th, 2005

Are everywhere! Doing two sets of fundraising != fun.

I’m organising the chocolate fundraising for the Combined Revue Ball (of which I will not be able to attend as I will unfortunately be in Vietnam) and no one came to pick up chocolates today except fellow organisers Bex and Ardo (well, he had to come, he drove them in). They paid me out when I said to her “eh, I’m skeptical about your ability to sell 6 boxes…” to Bex and hey, the last time I managed to sell 6 carry boxes in a week was when I was back in high school and nobody else in the school was selling chocolates.

Then I go home, to sell chocolates at church for TNTT. So much chocolate. Of course Anh Hao barely makes it in the nick of time and we started selling. However, very few people were buying. We only have like 70 boxes left in storage that we need to sell. It’s so crap. I see the necessity of fundraising – I just wish we didn’t have to sell so much chocolate. We are having an Australia Day fundraiser next year – it’ll be cool if we can get some funds in.

I’m half tempted to eat some but I had a Caramello earlier on in the week and it made me feel sick after I ate it. So, I went and had mango instead. And speaking of feeling crap, I had a Strawberry Frappe at MacDonald’s today. I don’t recommend having one after it’s been sitting in the sun > 30s and the ice has begun to melt. Stick to smoothies.

I re-read “The Heiress” by Jude Deveraux today. It’s a good romance novel. Though some say I should stop reading romance novels – wait – nearly everybody says it. But sometimes there’s nothing better than to read a trashy novel whilst eating a chocolate.

Not happening

I’m not going to pass my actuarial subjects this session again for the 3rd time in a row. I’ve gotten a high pass average for my computer subjects – and I barely do any work for them.

Maybe I should give up being an Actuary. I don’t really like any of this stuff, it doesn’t capture my interest. Neither does computing for that matter.

It’s just – what does? At this stage of my life am I willing to risk all and change degrees? I am pretty close to finishing – another year of my life. All my work experience has been in the Actuarial field.

But reality sets in. I’m 22 years old – I need to work and to start making smart decisions about my life.

Tickets

Thursday, November 17th, 2005

Bought next seasons subscription to the ballet – also tickets to the Royal NZ Ballet that are performing in August next year – should be awesome.

Also bought myself a ticket to Paul Mac for Friday next week. Should be a good show.

I’m looking forward to seeing it. The Sleeping Beauty is performing on the 5th of December – that’s the show that got me interested in the Ballet this time last year. I much prefer classical narratives in Ballet – it’s lovely. The surreal contemporary stuff is interesting but I guess I find it harder to connect.
