Flowers in the Attic

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

Flowers in the AtticThe T-Shirt I’m wearing today describes the kind of thing I’d like to do right now because TAFE is making me sad in the pants.

Flowers in the Attic is also the name of a book by Virginia Andrews. It is quite screwed up as well. It chronicles the life of 4 kids who get hidden up into an attic so their mother can get an inheritance as they were the product of an incestuous union.

In conclusion, I need an attic.

In conclusion

I went to a party on Saturday night and I have derived these results.

  • I should always take the pessimistic side when dealing with men. Always. There is no trusting them at all. Taking the optimistic side could potentially have me lose my dignity.
  • On the above, people lie to make themselves seem better. Or avoid telling the truth if they possibly can.
  • I need to learn how to be gracious.
  • The phrase “No risk, no return” sounds too financial. You always use phrases that rhyme.
  • People are funny.
  • You should always flip your skirt. I don’t care if the couch has aids.
  • I have no clue about shows on TV. I would clearly lose if I were to be on any game show whatsoever.
  • I make fast friends with girls. Girls are awesome. Such a shame I’m not lesbian/bi in any way at all. Not that I met anyone that was either lesbian or bi.
  • I am getting better at striking conversations with people I do not know at all.
  • At any event, you will only have about 2 or 3 decent conversations.
  • I do not understand why a common question is “who are you trying to pick up tonight?” Isn’t discretion the better part of valour?
  • My breasts are just simply not as nice as Brechney’s.

Sew far

Friday, October 26th, 2007

So far TAFE is being a bitch. There is a lot of work to be done. I finally finished my patterns for my range yesterday and have been sewing up the toiles.

The smell of calico is horrible and it wrinkles like an elderly man. The garments so far appear to fit me, but I just KNOW that Jean is going to criticise them and then make me redo the patterns. When I had the bolero toile checked the only thing I didn’t change was the sleeve.

Usually people love Fridays because it’s the end of the week. Personally I hate Fridays so much. Fridays at TAFE is design class with Jean. She is a perfectionist and piles so much work on you. In a way I love it. Because it pushes me to be the best I can be to meet her expectations. But sometimes it is incredibly discouraging when she just pulls apart your efforts of the entire week and then yells at you for being so poorly organised.

Today we have so much to do I don’t know where we will get the time to do it. I have to get my toiles assessed, fix the patterns and then cut the samples (including getting my marker officially marked). I have to fill in all the associated paperwork to that point. On top of that I have to do samples of 6 different embroidery stitches. On top of that I have to cut out a coat hanger in the horrible kitschy lace style. Then I have to present to Jean my ideas for my bag that goes with my range that I really don’t want to make.

In conclusion, I still need to cut out my pants toile right now and sew it up.

Also I need to buy more fabric.

Fun[ny] times

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

I’ve had interesting times recently.

I had a fun time at my birthday party not so long ago. Kudos to those who came! We have reconfirmed that Singstar is the greatest game ever with Mark and Matt hitting those hectic falsetto, putting even the esteemed Ness to shame.

Dinner with Taffy in reparation for the fact he couldn’t come to the above mentioned party. We went to the Amora (?) hotel and had dinner in their restuarant Charr. He said it was a 3 star restuarant of which I said “This is 2 stars more than I’m used to.” And in fact, I was dressed as a trashy university student. I was wearing a tiny denim mini skirt and the t-shirt with CSERevue.byteme emblazoned on my chest.  He was dressed in his yuppy work clothes. I did tell him to expect that for his birthday all I could afford was a Chinatown dinner.

I left him to watch Herrman’s Heroes. Stand up comedians. Funny. Interestingly enough, all the comedians were men. Also interestingly enough some of them even got up and said “I’m single.” I’m intrigued as to why people do that. Is it because they hope some groupie have pity on them and will come pick them up? It was rather interesting for me to go to an event where I really didn’t know anyone. I recognised people who had performed at Smokers and that was it. So I immediately imposed on the most beautiful Claire Testoni who was wearing the most gorgeous Burgundy knee high socks and sat next to her and talked to her boyfriend Evan and his siblings. I thoroughly enjoyed myself watching people say kind of funny and stupid things.

However, could you really date a comedian? I mean they talk about things to make them seem funny. One of the guys (I think his name is Nick Sun) went on a bitter rant about his ex girlfriend. Comedy isn’t all about what you so, but how you say it. So even though it was a very common theme, he said it in a way that was engaging and curiously funny. But if I was the ex girlfriend sitting in the audience I wouldn’t be amused.

People tell me I provide them with amusing entertainment doing that exact same thing when I regale them with tales of the stupid things I do with boys. But I don’t think any of the boys would be amused should they recognise themselves.

Then there was pubbing with Prat at his leaving drinks. But next time, I need to wear sensible shoes. Since I was so horribly underdressed with Taffy, I wore nice clothes. Everyone else were in jeans/shorts and a t-shirt. *sigh* I never get this right. Also, I lose at driving in the city as I do not know where to get off the Anzac Bridge highway thing to get to the Rocks so Robin had a go at me because we couldn’t get dinner at Pancake at the Rocks like we had planned. So Robin got drunk, told Qkwozz his password to his facebook account of which Qkwozz pwned him good and hard. We caught up with Max and his friends at the Lowenbrau of which I talked to more people I didn’t know and saw Jonathan again (and now we are friends on facebook yay!).

I had dinner with the TNTT gang, overdue September birthday dinner. It was weird when I got to the restuarant at precisely 7:30pm in the middle of nowhere (Georges Hall) and had to wait like 20 minutes for everyone else. Anna apparently had gone to the wrong restuarant with the same name. I got the shock of my life when I found out that Mary is going out with Truc.

First day back at TNTT was good. Had a meeting with Hang, Ngoc and Minh. Ngoc was equally shocked to find out the above news and spent most of the afternoon paying out Minh. This term looks like there will be lots of things going on, but mostly routine stuff. Stuff we’ve done year in year out. I did drills with the kids which was good. But it is interesting that kids forget the very simple procedures in drills and they’ve been doing it for years.

I dragged myself out to see Comicide which was good fun. Again I was staggered to see that in this comedy realm, it’s quite similar to CSE. Very high male to female ratio. Maybe more men are willing to make idiots of themselves. Maybe men just recognise that they are idiots. Who knows. Some of the sketches weren’t particularly great, but The Delusionists were performing and Ben Jenkins is absolutely amazing to watch. Smart Casual sung a song called Jesse and then broke into the song by the same name by Joshua Kadison. Pete, Jeb and Joe also performed. I mean election humour is great and all, but I got my fill of that during Law Revue. Also, it just goes over my head.

I managed to catch up with Pete and Jeb which was lovely and met some new people.  I solicited compliments on my stockings from Debbie (a bright and bubbly girl from S4) and saw Captain Kirk from the Starship Enterprise (and by that I mean Nerds FC1). I talked to Patrick who performed in Comicide and Herrman’s Heroes who is a Young Labor complete with “Kevin 07″ t-shirt and badge. He plans on killing himself during the election by drinking a shot every time Labor wins a seat. Goodbye liver. Did I mention that men are idiots?

I visited the Samster last night who was as cute as ever. I’m staggered at how fast children grow. We chased each other over the entire house, played hide and seek, sat in his cubby and read books. I met the new baby Will who is tiny and absolutely gorgeous. Sam utterly adores his baby brother but isn’t quite au fait with the concept of being gentle.

Been keeping myself busy. Things are not so bad as they were last week.
